Saw Kinko's on the list...we used to call Kerry "Tie and an Attitude" at Kinko's because he could smooth talk ANY customer. I mean ANY customer. Everyone at Kinko's was in a band or an art major, and dressed like it. Except for Kerry, all business. Wore khaki's, a button down and tie (ie "Tie and an Attitude".
So when we'd get an irate customer, we'd give him to Kerry. I was a shift manager at the time and ranked above Kerry, but a lot of times, jerk customers didn't want to deal with a 5'2 girl. So whenever the pain in the neck, complaining (and might I add WRONG) customer was at the counter, we just told them Kerry was the manager and he TOTALLY smoothed things over. It was amazing. And the thing is, he LIKED it. I dreaded when I would get called over to solve customer issues. I guess Kerry saw it as a fun challenge.
There were even specific customers (I wish I could remember this one guy's name) who were real assholes that became "Kerry's customers" adn requested him when they came in.
I always like working with Kerry because he was funny, worked hard and was nice to me. That was really important...with all the time he was around our house, he was like another brother and could have very easily teased, terrorized and mocked me or told Kinko's co-workers embarrassing stories about me. But you know, he was always nice to me and treated me like a friend, not just his best friend's little sister.
I think that was one of Kerry's most valuable assets- everyone he knew, he had a personal connection with and after meeting him even once, you knew he was a guy who'd help you out in a jam.
I have a photo of Kerry from Kinko's. He had on a red tie. Did I ever send this one to you? If not, let me know and I'll email it so that you post it on the blog when you start blogging about Kinko's.
I felt that way too, Chrissy. Kerry always treated me like a friend instead of Matt's little sister. He would introduce me as Nancy when I was down in North Carolina with him that one summer. Then later in the conversation, he'd tell people I was Matt's sister. But he never introduced me as "Matt's little sister, Nancy"... just Nancy.
